Domaine de la Taille, Montlouis-Sur-Loire Rémus, 2022
France, Loire. 100% Chenin Blanc.
Montlouis-sur-Loire is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department in the Loire Valley, perched between Amboise and Tour. The appellation faces Vouvray from across the south bank of the river making very similar wines from 100% Chenin Blanc. Here, the dry wines have medium intensity with very distinct aromas of green apple and lemon, medium alcohol, and noticeably high acidity that is finely balanced with ripe fruits.
The warm vintage has created a wine with a good degree of longevity that is also working very well today. Apples and honeysuckle combined with a dryness that is very refreshing. It’s really difficult not to like this wine: it has rich character with an intriguing structure and freshness combined with considerable depth. It’s an exceptionally classy offering at a surprisingly good price.
Tuna puttanesca, veal Milanese, carpaccio, Dover sole meunière, and very ripe Camembert. If a guest wanted to have a white with spring lamb, then this has the backbone to work really well.
