Château La Canorgue, Luberon Blanc, 2023

France, Luberon. Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc

The building that houses this winery is a very splendid old structure: a family home that has seen many generations reside in this idyllic site just outside the village of Bonnieux, in the Luberon hills. Taking a house here over several years, and visiting the winery was a very regular journey to replenish supplies. If I had to live in France, this small village might be top of the list.

I think Yapp Brothers have been the agents for this wine for many years, and it consistently delivers a quality, medium-bodied wine that needs food. Stone fruits, grapefruit-style acidity, the blend of four grapes - Roussanne, Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc - delivers a soft, immensely likeable and crowd-pleasing wine.

Mushroom risotto, soft tomatoes that have been bubbling quietly and now sitting amongst fresh pasta, a light vegetable bake, or a rich chicken salad, would work to perfection. Richer fish - monkfish or cod - would also work in a creamy vegetable sauce.

£19.50 - Yapp
