Australia, Margaret River. 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 7% Malbec, and 7% Petit Verdot.
Moss Wood is one of the most respected wineries in Australia. Located in the Margaret River about 90 minutes south of Perth, it is a relatively small, family-run property. Established in 1969, Clare and Keith Mugford acquired the estate in 1985 where Keith had been winemaker since 1979. Cabernet Sauvignon is their most respected varietal, but they also make Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Sémillon. This wine is names after the grandmother of Ian Bell who worked at Moss Wood from 1985 to 2006.
The focus of this wine since its inception in 2002, was to create a wine with an elegant palate and refined structure that is ready for early drinking. The nose from this vintage shows dark fruits of redcurrants and blueberries. The structure is firm with fresh acidity and integrated tannins superbly balanced with strong blackberry fruit plus excellent length. Its is made from a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 7% Malbec, and 7% Petit Verdot. The oak ageing has a very positive impact on the wine that has been designed to be consumed when young and vibrant.
